Vitamin Pitches in on Highlandtown Facelift

Local design and marketing firm works with Highlandtown Main Street to color-coordinate a facade redevelopment program.

Baltimore, Md. — July 15, 2008

When Southeast Baltimore’s Highlandtown recently won $60,000 in grant money to improve its Main Street facades, they faced a problem: how to convince skeptical business owners of the benefits of a facelift?

To help them overcome the hurdle, Highlandtown Main Street stayed in the neighborhood and turned to Vitamin, the boutique design-web-PR firm with headquarters on Eastern Avenue in the Main Street district. Vitamin was asked to come up with potential paint color selections and provide a report, including detailed Photoshop mockups, illustrating how the buildings would look once the colors were applied.

Vitamin delivered its report two weeks ago. Armed with the mockups, the Highlandtown Main Street manager was able to go to property owners and show them exactly how the program would work to their benefit. The response was overwhelmingly positive – several painting projects have already been completed, with several more underway.

The Highlandtown Main Street couldn’t be happier with the results.

“Having Vitamin’s great color concepts and photos really helped out a lot,” said Erica Christoph, Esq., main street manager. "Without their input I don’t think we would have gotten so many people to say yes so easily.”

“We were excited to get the chance to contribute,” said Amanda Karfakis, vp of communications at Vitamin. "We love being part of the Highlandtown community and we had a lot of fun doing our small part to help give its appearance a boost.”
